UFO is a popular term given to an unidentified flying object. According to scientists, most aerial objects are treated as UFOs until they are investigated and named otherwise. The terminology, Unidentified flying object wasn’t known until the early fifties, although several sightings of UFOs had been observed. Before it was known as unidentified flying objects, UFO’s were first known as flying saucers, flying flapjacks and unidentified objects.

History of the UFO

From time immemorial, as early as 200 – 400 BC UFOs have been sighted. Ancient civilizations like the Chinese and Grecian civilizations have recorded sightings of UFOs as recorded by astronomers who claim to have seen angels, celestial bodies and extraterrestrial beings. These bright, objects were later discovered to be either meteors or comets or any of the visible planets revolving or rotating in their orbits around the sun.
That may have been the first record of UFO sightings in history but do you know that after those events there were also sightings of UFOs by the residents of a city in Germany in the 15th century.
The residents of a town know as Nuremberg woke up to the sight of hundreds of revolving cylindrical, triangular and spherical black objects that were rotating irregularly overhead. Not only did this unsettle the residents, it also led to a lot of speculations about the significance of the objects. Several hundred years after, a middle-aged farmer in a European nation sighted a dark balloon-like object plummeting toward the earth at neck-breaking speed. This sighting coincided with the version of about a thousand people who described seeing live sized airships with many claiming to have interacted with the occupants of the ships. As usual, this incident raised a lot of dust and resulted in a lot of divisions.

Between 1904 and 1930, there were other incidents of UFO sightings by crewmen of a US submarine and other civilians with variations in the description of what they witnessed. Some claim to have seen egg-shaped objects, others claimed they saw shapeless flying light-emitting substances.

Theories about UFO

There have been many theories about what UFOs are; you may have read about a few, and you may have watched some. We have made a shortlist of the most controversial, the most ludicrous and the ones that are close to the precise definition of what UFO’s are.
Theory about Aliens: this is perhaps the most peddled, yet the most outlandish theory about UFOs. For many years’ even till recent times, many governments, especially the government of the United States, have been accused of knowing about UFOs and conducting clandestine operation with these “aliens.” Although many scientists and military men have alluded to these claims howbeit without concrete evidence, it remains a theory nevertheless.

The George Adamski theory: In the year 1959, a particular individual known as George Adamski claimed that he had interactions with certain telepathic aliens from other planets other than earth. He claimed that these lunar aliens who visited the earth lived in environments similar to earth. This theory was also proven to be false by photographs taken by a Russian spaceship
Ed Walters theory: A hoax perpetrated by a building contractor in Florida in the mid-’80s blossomed to become a famous conspiracy theory that spanned for over three years. Mr. Ed claimed to have seen a flying saucer hovering near his home, and these claims were supported with photographs. Many years after his family left the house, his neighbors stumbled on a replica of the model of the “visiting UFO.”

Angels and Celestial bodies theory: after the theory on UFOs as invading aliens, this theory is another famous one. Many still attribute the sight of an unidentified flying object to angels, fairies, demons, and other celestial bodies. This has often led to public spectacles and in some cases, rituals and different religious reactions. Interestingly, scientific investigations have resulted in naming these phenomena’s what they are — objects in the Atmosphere and light phenomena.

In conclusion, according to science, UFOs can range from missiles and aircraft which are leaving or entering the atmosphere. People can also call visible astronomical objects like the moon, meteors, artificial satellites and bright stars UFOs.
Other objects that can be called UFOs include clouds, birds, and balloons such as research or weather balloons and light phenomena such as lightning, searchlight, and mirages.
